“Try not to resist the changes that come your way. Instead let life live through you. And do not worry that your life is turning upside down. How do you know that the side you are used to is better than the one to come?”
— Jalaluddin Rumi
In 2.5 months I will leave the country I have called home since the beginning of 2009.
The older you get, the harder it is to change, we collect things, we make deep friendships, we become attached, and with this attachment, comes the fear of unattaching ourselves.”What if I won’t like it? What if it is a mistake? Am I strong enough to take this huge thing on?” are just some of the typical questions running through my mind. My inner chimp is making some noise and I’m trying to calm him down.
But mostly, I’m feeling good about my decision because I know that it is time to change, to turn life upside down and see if the “side” that’s to come is better than the one I already know. If it’s not – then I hope the Alps will still be there for me!
The reasons for change are manifold, nothing has really been ‘bad enough’ to warrant a reason to get up and leave Switzerland, but I have some dreams about how I want to live my life that include spending more time with my family, having the freedom and flexibility to work from ‘home’ but also, to choose where that is.
So, in August I ship out of Switzerland and head in the direction of Southwest Ireland – to ‘the Kingdom’. I’ll start the next chapter there and see what happens – a big adventure awaits.
I will join the wonderful team at www.komoot.com (check it out!), a Berlin-based GPS exploring, route planning and tracking app/platform. I’ll be tasked with helping to bring Komoot to English-speaking outdoor communities and getting the word out there, about how wonderful a tool it is.
Stay in touch for more exciting updates as the adventure continues – and follow me on Komoot while you’re at it!
